A must see...
I will leave the wordy reviews to those more qualified than myself, but I will say that this is one of the best movies I have seen in years. It accurately captures the beauty and spirit of Arkansas and her people, and the performance by Dan McCabe as "Wheels" is... well, I'll just say if he's not at least nominated for an Oscar, life isn't fair. His depiction of a young man whose body is afflicted with CP but who has no problems whatsoever with his mouth is the highlight of the movie. As I understand it, this is a true story, with the two principal characters now grown and living in Little Rock, which makes it even more moving without ever becoming touchy feely. Be sure and see the film and then come visit us where it was filmed on location in northwest Arkansas; you'll be glad you did.
"Sausages or pepperoni?"
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I just happened onto it on television and am so glad I decided to watch it. It's a little indy film, based on a true story, of two young men that have been friends their whole lives.
Enoch (played by Luke Grimes) is handsome, a great baseball player, and has a terrible disabling stutter. Wheels (played by Dan McCabe) has cerebral palsy, is in a wheelchair, and lives life to the fullest. I fell in love with Wheels.
This is a coming-of-age story, a story of friendship, young love, family, obligations, jealousy, life in a small town.
The film won many indy awards but really should have been recognized for more. Both McCabe and Grimes gave Oscar-worthy performances.
The story, the acting, the cinematography were all superb. It also has some wonderful performances by Brian Dennehy, Mare Winningham, Mary Kay Place, and James McDaniel.
Watch for this movie on TV, or better...
Indie Drama That Will Test & Reward Your Patience
A story of friendship that will try & reward your patience. The story is set in a small Arkansas town and is based on a true story. The main characters (Luke Grimes, Dan McCabe & Misti Traya) are older teens going through coming-of-age experiences that most viewers will find familiar and will ring true for that stage of life. These 3 talented, young actors give solid performances that are supported by such accomplished pro's as Brian Dennehy, Mare Winningham, James McDaniel & Mary Kay Place). The story-line seemed a bit choppy for my taste, but the scenery, mood of the film, & main plot line (meaningful friendship) outweighed that minor flaw. I think it bears mentioning that the pace of the film is slooow but perseverance will be rewarded.
