Where Eagles Dare

One of the Greatest War Films of All Time !
Quite simply one of the greatest war movies ever made. A top notch thriller loaded with action, espionage and double crosses, "Where Eagles Dare" is the kind of movie that Hollywood just doesn't make anymore. This isn't some politically correct drama steeped in reality. No, this is good guys vs. bad guys. This is pure unabashed fantasy which keeps the audience on the edge of its seat. This is just darn good entertainment!

Richard Burton is absolutely cunning as the British agent who leads an elite group of soldiers behind enemy lines and into a seemingly unpenetrable German castle to rescue an imprisoned American General. A young Clint Eastwood is the only American on the mission. Clint is his usual cool and calm self. However he, like the audience, isn't sure who to trust. Somebody's a double agent, but exactly who is anyone's guess. Don't worry about figuring it out, just sit back and enjoy the drama. You'll love the growing tension and suspicion between...

Richard Burton takes on the German Army
If you want action and scenic Austrian locations, this film has it. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood star in the movie adaptation of Alistair MacLean's novel (MacLean also wrote the screenplay). From the beginning of the film with agents parachuting out of an original German Junkers 52 to the life or death pursuit at the end of the film, this video is jam-packed with action.

Expect much of the usual MacLean storyline in this film as a handful of agents, plan gone awry, destroy a large contingent of the German Army while challenged by double agents in their midst. Much like "Force Ten from Navarone" and " The Guns of Navarone," a World War Two buff might wonder why so much of the Wehrmacht was located somewhere other than the front. No matter.

The cinematography is excellent and the locations stunning in Winter beauty. The film's musical score by itself is wonderful. The DVD release is very high quality. By the way, the soundtrack CD is also...

The Schloss Adler.....The Castle of Eagles
As far as World War II action films are concerned, they don't get much bigger & better than this nail biting, thrill a minute, nearly three hour ride into espionage, escapism & excitement !!

From the pen of Alistair McLean came the book...and then director Brian G. Hutton has done a superb job in truly capturing onscreen the pulse pounding thrill ride of the novel. The movie is like a grenade with the pin pulled out...you never know when the next explosion is coming !

Clint Eastwood (Eastwood said "Let Richard do the talking") and Richard Burton (Burton said "Clint acts with a type of dynamic lethargy") lead a group of Allied paratroopers on a daring raid to the Schloss Adler in Bavaria to rescue an American general held prisoner high in it's snow covered towers. However, all is not what it seems...the commandos are dying one by one and it soon becomes quite obvious that there is a traitor in the ranks. The film then becomes an exercise in espionage and...

The Jeff Dunham Show

Taking away the live element of his show takes away a lot of the humor
"The Jeff Dunham Show" is a Comedy Central offshoot of Jeff Dunham's live shows using the familiar characters Walter, Achmed, Bubba J, Sweet Daddy Dee, Peanut, and Jose Jalapeno. In this seven episode season, Dunham introduces his characters onstage in front of an audience and then goes to a clip of them out in the real world trying to interact with other people.

Watching the show, the format is VERY similar to the Dave Chappelle Show where he would interact with the audience and introduce segments and then go to the clip in a sketch comedy sort of way. However, the difference between Dave Chappelle and Jeff Dunham was that Chappelle was really good at this. When Dunham takes his characters out in public, the audience is supposed to believe they are real people and other actors and celebrities talk to the puppets. For example, Brooke Hogan is set up with Peanut on a date until Peanut "eats" some guacamole laced with nuts that he is allergic to and Achmed intercepts the date...

rip-off
this was a very badly put together format for jeff dunham, and it was the first one of his shows that i didn't think was funny, nothing new, not worth watching, we actually turned it off after 20 mins....too bad cause i have loved his other stuff....

??? Do you really want to buy this????
As I say in my title do you really want to buy this? I really love the heck out of Jeff Dunham but unfortunately his new TV show just doesn't have it and actually the second season has been canceled, but in by another review from CNN I heard that Comedy Central is going to keep Jeff Dunham because they have multilevel agreements with him but the TV show is gone. There are a few funny moments in the seven episodes of his first season but I purchased it because I don't watch TV I watch DVDs. But in less you are a dedicated fan of his work I would not buy this DVD, I would purchase his former DVDs which are hilarious and will keep laughing over and over again when you watch them. Even though this was only $10 at Amazon I am going to keep it because I am an avid fan of Jeff Dunham. I hope my review helped you in any way. Thank you.

Absolute Power

A political thriller but also a strong father-daughter story
At the start of "Absolute Power" Luther Whitne (Clint Eastwood), cat burglar par excellence, finds himself in a very strange situation. While robbing a rich man's safe in a large bedroom closet, he is interrupted by the appearance of a man and woman who head straight for the bed. While hiding in the closet, where he sees what is going on through a two-way mirror, he watches while the sex play gets rough: the man hits her, she stabs him with a letter opener, and then two men come into the room and shoot her. Luther gets out of there, but while his presence was undetected it does not go undiscovered. The problem is that the man he was watching happens to be the President of the United States (Gene Hackman).

Now, I have to stop at this point and tell you that one of my cinematic pet peeves is the idea that the United States Secret Service will let the president do anything, no matter how stupid or reckless, without batting an eye. Indeed, in "Absolute Power"...

Clint vs. The White House...Who Will Win?...Well, You Know!
This review refers to the Warner Home Video(DVD edition) of "Absolute Power"

This is one of Clint's best. It really shows off his expertise in front of and behind the camera. His on screen magnetism matches his superb direction in this great thriller. Also included is some of the best talent in Hollywood, as Clint has a knack for surrounding himself with the finest actors.

"Absolute Power" from 1997 is a terrific thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat(even after repeated viewings) as Clint goes up against some mighty powerful enemies. He is an aging master thief, and while in the process off pulling of the ultimate job, witnesses a murder. And this murder involves the most powerful man in the world. When Clint is the chief suspect, he must prove that the blood trail leads all the way to the Whitehouse. Not an easy task for our guy, as he is being persued by all sides. The film is multi-faceted as it also let's us in on this thief's softer side as he...

THE POWER OF THE DIRECTOR
With MYSTIC RIVER being the most recent example, director Clint Eastwood shows why his movies are so powerful: the casting and the expert, effective direction. Eastwood the director is much better than Eastwood the actor, and there are times I wish he'd cast others in the roles he takes. But that aside, this political thriller soars because of the wonderful actors and the way Clint works with them to bring out the best, even in smaller, seemingly insignificant scenes. Let's look at some of these performances:
GENE HACKMAN - an outstanding actor who always gives a hundred percent doesn't get a lot of screen time in this one, but of course his scenes are pivotal and his ability to create such a devious and self-centered liar are brilliant.
LAURA LINNEY - one of our most consistently good actresses, Laura takes the cliche role of abandoned daughter, but fills it with the hurt that comes from that; the love that still wants to get out, and her devotion to the man she feels...

Evil Clutch

Cheesy Italian Evil dead-would be
An evil demon has taken the form of a sexy woman as she has seduced many men, have sex with them then kills them with something unusual. An American exchange student and her Italian boyfriend travel around the Italian countryside for a sexual holiday, but when a lovely hitchhiker joins the couple their weekend turns into a nightmare.

A cheesy Italian Evil Dead-wannabe that Troma distributed here in the US in the late 80's! what makes this quite bad is that the film makes no sense, there's no logic and shows some nifty gore effects in it. The acting is terrible and the ending also rip-offs Evil Dead all the way, i say this movie is a laughable mess but rather good in a MST3K kind of way.

Over the top in everything
Don't go into this movie expecting anything or to walk away in awe. just sit back and enjoy this senseless movie. It doesn't aspire to be anything great, which makes it great,

The acting is bad, over the top, and exagerated. The effects are disgusting and annoying. The landscapes are beautiful. The story is silly.

But you can't help but like this film, even though everything seems do have been so wrong and messy. And Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni's over acting is a bonus here and fits the movie well. I like her!

Like I stated, don't watch this film for anything but enjoyment and don't expect too much from it!

Ghost Hunters: Military Investigations

Bloodsong
dont get me wrong i love Ghost Hunters but i was a bit disaponted that there was only five eposids on this two dvd set

Love the show/CD terrible
I was so disappointed with the quality of the disk. The pixils break up into little squares,I have to take it out and put it back in again before it will work. Did the same with another disk of Ghost hunters; poor quality, and the mulitity disk are just stacked on top of each other Dvd's from other companies work just fine, so I am sure that it is just poor quallity.

T.A.P.S.
Awesome video. If your into the military and ghosts, then this is a good purchase. If you have ever watched T.A.P.S. then you will love this. Anything T.A.P.S. is great to watch.

Village of the Damned

"I Must Think of a Brick Wall"
If horror maven John Carpenter decides to do a remake of a classic sci-fi horror film, it should be safe for fans to assume that it's gonna be great. After all, this is the groundbreaking filmmaker who turned Michael Myers into a slasher-film icon in HALLOWEEN (1978) and directed the highly revered THE THING (1982), itself a remake of the classic 1951 film THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD. So when Mr. Carpenter's 1995 remake of the classic 1960 thriller VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED came out, it should've been a fantastic cinematic experience for horror and science-fiction fans. It should've been. Sadly, it wasn't.

For those of you unfamiliar with the basic plot of both films, here's a quick summary. In the middle of a seemingly average day, all of the residents of a small village mysteriously fall unconscious, and anyone attempting to go into the slumbering village also passes out. When the folks finally awaken, most everything seems to be perfectly normal. Normal, that is, with the...

I loved this movie!!
This movie is one of the creepiest I've ever seen !! It seems so real! I love Mark Hamill as Reverend George. It was a top-notch performance! Beware the children!! It makes me want to reconsider having my own kids. Don't listen to the ones that totally bash this movie,it's awesome! However, if you get scared easily, have a weak stomach,or a weak heart for that matter, I wouldn't recommend that you watch this movie. For those of you that like to have the sh** scared out of you, this movie is the one for you!!!

Enjoyable enough!
Being that I am not familiar with the story behind Village Of The Damned, or the John Wyndham novel (The Midwich Cuckoos) upon which it is based, I will try to keep my overview of the plot brief.

The story begins with a strange mist floating over a coastal town in the USA, and ten women suddenly find themselves pregnant with children that turn out to be alien creatures in humanoid form with immense powers of mind control. One specific fault I found with the plot is that, for supposedly "emotionless" creatures, these children sure get upset pretty easily. From what I could ascertain, much of the original idea of the story was to raise questions about mankind's inability to accept the unknown, and Reverend George (Mark Hamill) keeps the film consistent with this idea. The heroes, such as they are, consist of Allen Chaffee (Christopher Reeve), Jill McGowan (Linda Kozlowski), Frank McGowan (Michael Paré), and Doctor Susan Verner (Kirstie Alley). The last of these...

The Three Stooges Collection, Vol. 8: 1955-1959

Thank you, Sony !!!
Well, I guess if others can write a review of a DVD set more than two months before it is even released, I can too.

For Stooge fans, the long road is finally over. The shorts with Joe Besser are going to be available on home video. Fans who appreciate the Stooges in all of their incarnations applaud Sony for issuing the Columbia shorts to the end. I'm sure that as they got into the volumes with Shemp, sales dropped off. That and the dreadful economy could have made the company cancel the remaining volumes. But they didn't and I believe that this fact alone earns this set a five star rating.

As for the shorts themselves, they are not the best work of the guys. There are a lot of repeat plots and stock footage used in both the remaining Shemp shorts and in some of the Joe shorts. But contrary to a previously posted review, this didn't happen because the Stooges ran out of gas or were "tired". This was because Columbia was cheap!! In the middle and late...

"End of an era" shorts offer good laughs and a new approach; this pre-release review just mentions the content
This final volume of Stooge shorts is interesting on two levels. First, it represents the transition from the Shemp Howard years to the Joe Besser years, with many familiar plots and gags being lifted from older comedies. Some of these patchwork shorts are very clever: OF CASH AND HASH is a slick reworking of SHIVERING SHERLOCKS; CREEPS is probably better remembered than its inspiration THE GHOST TALKS. BLUNDER BOYS, an amusing parody of "Dragnet," is noteworthy for using entirely fresh material (even if the battlefield "exterior" looks like it cost five dollars to stage).

But this set is even more interesting to film buffs, as a living record of the end of an era, and as a fascinating exhibition of creative film editing. SCHEMING SCHEMERS deserves a special Oscar for the editing, with footage from three older comedies spliced into the new material. By the time Joe Besser joined the Stooges in 1956, two-reel short subjects were 99% extinct, and only Columbia and the Stooges...

FINALLY ALL THREE STOOGES SHORTS RELEASED!!!!
Here we go, June 1, 2010 will be a historical day in comedy history!!! Thanks to Sony, all of us Stooge Fans can sit back, relax and enjoy an entire week of ALL stooge shorts. It is worth taking a vacation for. Now the next question is WHEN ARE THEY RELEASING ON BLU RAE!?...LOL. Actually, I'm happy with them on DVD and one day when I'm in the old folks home, I hope they can pull out their ancient DVD player and let me relax in peace to nothing but Stooge shorts.

Yes, I know that Volume 8 will contain shorts that have repeated plots, the stooges are older and without Curly and Shemp, but it will take me back to my childhood days when I did not care what short was on, as long as I just got to watch, I was happy.

To everyone else that REVIEWED, I wish we could all get together in a big room, put on the big widescreen and enjoy this proud day of June 1, 2010 together. Lucky for me that my 11 year old daughter and 14 year old son enjoys watching.

SO STOOGE...

Art of Bellydance: Live From Shanghai

Uhmn.....
I was hesitant about watching this dvd, because I have not been enthused with the instructional dvd's that BDSS has produced.

The beginning performance was extremely boring. There was nothing with this piece that set the BDSS apart from any other dance company. A lot of twirls and whirls, but no real depth to the movement and again boring choreography.

The Second performance brought out Issam (Amazing drummer).Who came and interacted with the crowd, then did a piece with Sonia. If you watch his doumbek closely it lights up. Super cute. There were some parts of her performance I liked some I didn't but overall this piece was decent. She played zils :).It looked as if some of her performance was choreograph and some was improvisational,on some parts she was just off.

The third performance was tribal. The dancer with the black hair and red flower's dancing looked off.It looked as if they put the best dancers in the front. Overall the performance was...

Lacks a WOW factor
This is the first performance DVD I've seen from Bellydance Superstars, and I found it to be a pleasant show. I expected to prefer the traditional Egyptian and AmCab performances, however, I think the tribal numbers were the highlight. The presence of Issam Houshan was delightful, as always.

Three performances did fall flat for me. The polynesian number was unexciting, slow and static, completely lacking the dynamic energy that should have infused it. The bellydance-ballet number suffered from awkward moments, or, possible missteps, I honestly couldn't say after one viewing. Then there was "Ya Raitone." Think Bellydance meets Reggaeton. I don't consider myself a purist, but this didn't work on any level for me and I'm disappointed it made it into the show. It felt like a rookie error, something that should have been revamped or removed during "previews."

Those three numbers aside, overall I liked the show. However, the editing and cinematography had an...

Style over substance..........
Very pretty to look at, but, boring to watch. The choreography lacked variety and was repetitive. There was little diversity in the ages of the dancers or of body type. Even the tribal bellydancers, who are usually very distinct, blended into the general melee.

I only recommend it if you can catch it on PBS for free.

Dirt: The Complete Second Season

Great evil doings in Hollywood
This is the shortened season of Dirt due to the writers strike. This show is great if you are a fan of sleazy people doing evil things, blackmailing each other, double crossing each other and then putting it in a magazine. The first year was great, these seven episodes will give you more for you fix, but it is sad this show did not continue. it is a true guilty pleasure

The most undderrated show of all time finally released...
Dirt chronicles the existence of magazines and celebrities and how articles/stories come to light and what effects those articles have on paper. Throw in some really awesome characters and sex and you've got this awesome show.

It only lasted on 13 episode season and one 7 episode season (cut off due to writers strike), but it was very well done. Worth buying for twice the price to view a show that should've been into season 4 or 5 by now, but was cut short due to being thrown around in slots, delayed, etc.

Buy!

No where near as good as season 1
Dirt season 2 has nothing on season 1, acting is great (to be expected) but the dialogue is shonky, the storyline is repeated a bit from the first season but they don't pull it off as cool as they did it in season 1. Not overly impressed, but Courtney Cox helps to brighten it up somewhat.

Sesame Street: The Best of Elmo 2

My 18 Month Old Loves It!
We LOVE this Elmo video! My daughter is 18 months old and we have several Sesame Street videos (mostly Elmo's World). She just loves Elmo. What makes this dvd different is that it ISN'T like Elmo's world. We love Elmo's World, but are happy for a change from the characters that are in it (ie: Noodle family).
This has appearances from celebrities and fantastic songs in it that are sure to be classics. I cannot compare to Best of Elmo 1, but I can definitely say this is one of our favorite DVDs in our collection.

Father and Daughter love it!
I keep this DVD in my car and my 23 month old daughter watches it almost every day. By now, she is starting to sing along with the songs and I can't even remember the original words to the Jason Mraz song, "I'm yours" anymore because now I sing the "Elmo" version instead.

As other reviewers have pointed out this DVD is also entertaining for parents because it features appearances by Jack Black, Adam Sandler, Goo Goo Dolls and Ray Charles, to name a few...

Highly recommend for kids who love Elmo.

The Dvd was great
Every Christmas I get my son toys and after a day or two he doesn't play with them anymore, so I got him the Elmo dvd and he loves it, every day and night he watches this dvd and its very educational because they sing the A,B,C's and he sings along with it, my son is two and he's turning three soon but this gift made me feel that I made the perfect choice. This was a great buy for the money and I will definately buy him more of the Elmo DVD's thank you so much......

Tightrope

Dark, Menacing, and Ambiguous
To me, this film is even more impressive today than it was when I first saw it. Frankly, when seeing it 20 years ago, I was thrown off-balance by the character whom Eastwood plays, Wes Block, a police detective in New Orleans. He pursues a serial killer of prostitutes, a psychopath with whom he seems to share similar psycho-sexual preoccupations. Presumably this was a risky part for Eastwood to take on. Under skillful but deferential direction by Richard Tuggle, he explores with great skill certain depraved tendencies within himself which were much more shocking in 1984 than they seem to be, regrettably, two decades later. Block's personal situation is complicated even more by the fact that he a single parent, raising two daughters. It is also important to remember that his personal conduct creates the risk of compromising his professional integrity as a law enforcement officer. For these and other reasons, Block is a much more enigmatic character than, for example, Harry ("what you...

Dark, underrated Eastwood masterpiece
This Eastwood film portrays a much darker view of life than previous Eastwood efforts. A very suspenseful and gripping film. In it, Eastwood plays Detective Wes Block. Block is pursuing a serial killer who is murdering prostitutes in the seedy underside of New Orleans. Block finds himself strangely drawn into this underworld and walking the "tightrope" between right and wrong, good and evil, as he balances his search for the killer. Meanwhile, his behavior eerily shadows the killer's deviant pursuits quite often leaving the viewer gasping in shock.

In the role of a rape counselor is Genevieve Bujold, as Beryl Thibodeaux. An excellent counterbalance to Block, she plays on the tightrope, too. We watch as his tendency towards the lurid develops, yet her job is one of comforter and defender of those who are victems of violence and also to prevent violence against women. Their attraction creates an interesting tension during the film.

Another interesting...

Should have been Clint Eastwood's first acting oscar nomination
Anybody who thinks Clint Eastwood gave his finest acting performances in "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby" should see this film, released in 1984. At the time, his acting talent was not as respected as it is now, which is why I think this film did not get the critical acclaim it should have.

Clint gives a flat out amazing performance as a police officer investigating the murder of prostitutes in red light new orleans while also exploring his own disturbing appetites for kinky sex.

The film is deceptive. It starts out as what seems to be a typical cop thriller but quickly evolves into something much deeper and multilayered. Clint shows an emotional complexity all the more extraordinary because of its subtlety. It should have easily been his first acting oscar nod.

Also worth noting is that this is one of the best films ever filmed in New Orleans. It excellently captures the unique flavor and ambience of the city. (something all the more precious in...

Life/Planet Earth Collection

DAVID YES- OPRAH NO
Sadly, Oprah's narration of "Life" is horrible. Read some of the reviews for the single title "Life" by Oprah. Her narration is both childish and dreadful. If you want the best of these two beautiful and astonishing programs get "Planet Earth" and "Life" both narrated by David Attenborough. They are both available on Blu Ray and you will pay the about same amount as for the Attenborough-Oprah package. Both Life and Planet Earth are spectacular and feature some of the greatest nature photography you will ever see. I'm sorry to give this just one star. If both titles were by David Attenborough it would be five stars.

Thanks for Nothing
Bundled edition with David Attenborough on "Planet Earth" and Oprah on "Life"? No, thank you. The only reason that I can figure that they bundled it this way is because they cannot sell the Oprah version of "Life." Nobody wants it (except for women who are home at 4 p.m. on weekdays), so just drop it. Call me when you bundle both Attenborough versions together.

"O," Beware....
I have nothing against Oprah. But, Sir David Attenborough is the top nature narrator on the planet. When there is an option, why take anyone else? I bought the Life series with Attenborough. Not only is he a great narrator, the series is complete--unlike the US verson. The US version is shortened for commercials and the extra "How it was filmed" segment is not included with each episode as it with the UK version.

All-in-all, the UK version is far superior in many ways.

Play the Game

The Griffith VS White Bout
One thing I must say about this hilarious comedy is it feels like something the late John Hughes might have made. Only without silly teens in high school. It didn't look like such an enjoyable film from the teaser-trailers--but boy, did I love this movie. Also...don't confuse this with the four or five others that share the same title. This is a 2008 offering and miraculously, there was no other film by the same title released that year or since then.

David Mitchell (a strangely effeminate Paul Campbell) is a raging 'player', an almost sexually incontinent ladies' man. With essentially little life outside his dad's (hilarious Clint Howard) car dealership, what has he got to lose chasing the babes? Except that David's Grandpa Joe (Andy Griffith) won't forgive him for taking the job and sticking grandpa in a super-fine condominium.

This is a lapse that makes no sense in the story...but David visits his Grandpa Joe, who is despondent and threatens suicide because...

Andy Griffith fan
I was so excited to get this movie, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie! I have never seen Anj in this kind of role, and it was absolutely hilarious!!! I think you will enjoy this movie, even if you're not an Andy Griffith fan, but then I can't imagine anyone not being a fan. :)

Assisted Living Residents really liked this movie!

Mighty Machines: Revved Up!

Excellent purchase
My son is three and a half and he enjoyed every minute of this video. I love how the creator gives each character a name. The steps and processes are gone over slowly and acurate terminology is used to classify items therefore increasing children's vocabulary.

Be prepared to watch this over and over
My three year old (going on 4) has not let this disc leave the daily rotation yet. I could not figure out who "Jet Girl" was that he was talking about over and over. He kept asking if that was Jet Girl every time a plane flew over. He knew all about her because he saw her get created. A must have for any child who loves the Mighty Machines DVDs.

4 year old LOVES it!
My husband and I have purchased almost all of the "Mighty Machines" dvds. And this is just another one to add to the list of his favorites. We love the videos because they teach real stuff and not just show silly cartoon characters. And the dvds have been keeping his attention since he was 2 years old! They are worth every penny!

Before You Say I Do

A Tender Love Story
This is a beautiful love story about a guy who goes back in time to win his true love's heart and hand in marriage before he marries a guy who would ultimately break her heart and shatter her trust in men forever. A love story with a wonderful happy ending that doesn't leave you disappointed. The plot unfolds beautifully with enough humor and heartfelt emotion to keep you watching with anticipation. As an added bonus, no foul language. Yeah !!

Great Movie!!!
I saw this movie on television, and loved it, but failed to get the title. I googled lengthy descriptions trying to find it so I could add it to my collection. I was delighted to finally find the name, and now that I've watched it again, it as good as maybe even better than I remembered.
Basic story starts with a couple in love, but after being hurt badly in the past, she is very hesitant to make a commitment. He is a guy with the habit of making a wish when he drives through a yellow light, and finally one of his wishes comes true.
Very cute story, happy ending, even my teenage daughter AND her boyfriend liked it!

...travel back in time to a more innocent age, before Martha Stewart wore orange jumpsuits...
Never mind that this film sidesteps the shouldering of real-life responsibility, that it instead tries to resolve a troubled relationship with a fantasy twist. 2009's BEFORE YOU SAY I DO is graced with two immensely likable romantic leads and a breezy tone and some good comic moments. The final decider for me, though, is that the premise rests on my favorite sci-fi conceit, that of time travel.

George Murray is an adman. Jane Gardner writes a popular advice column. George and Jane are very much in love, and so it's no surprise that one night George breaks out the shiny rock and the proposal. What's eye-opening is Jane's response which is along the lines of "Uhhh..." Jane adores George, she does. But she's held hostage by her disastrous first marriage. She bears the emotional and psychological scars brought about by an unfaithful ex-husband. Jane adores George, but she runs away.

Undisputed III: Redemption

"God has given me a gift ... I am the most complete fighter in the world ... I must prove I am worthy of something"
It's rare that a DTV movie can impress as completely as Undisputed II - Last Man Standing did: aside from being the best film Isaac Florentine had directed, it was arguably the single best martial arts flick released that year. The fact that it was filmed for under $10 million and still managed to attain cult status without a theatrical release makes it simply more impressive. Florentine followed this masterpiece up with the questionable The Shepherd: Border Patrol and Ninja, both of which were a decisive step down from the quality he had pioneered for the low-budget market. Thus, it was with some apprehension that I awaited the release of "Redemption", fearing it wouldn't do the original justice...but I am happy to report that Florentine is back on par and delivers what...

Undisputed lll: Redemption
Isaac Florentine's Undisputed 3: Redemption is, in my opinion, the best of the Undisputed series may be meaningful to those who know the earlier films. Scott Adkins reprises his role as Russian inmate Boyka, now severely hobbled by the knee injury suffered at the end of Undisputed 2. No longer the feared prison fighter he was, he has declined so far that he is now good only for cleaning toilets. But when a new prison fight tournament begins - an international affair, matching the best fighters from prisons around the globe, enticing them with the promise of freedom for the winner - Boyka must reclaim his dignity and fight for his position in the tournament.

He succeeds, of course, and is packed off to Georgia where he meets his opponents. The brash American. The Brazilian capoeira expert. The North Korean tae kwon do expert. A Greek. A Croat. And, most to be feared, the Colombian(Mark Zaror).

The fix is in, of course. While all of the other fighters are forced to...

penitentiary pugilism at its most POSITIVELY professional
If a casual fan of B-rate fight flicks were to come across this in the video store having not heard of the franchise, one could easily justify its dismissal. Typically direct-to-video sequels to direct-to-video movies give fans just enough to barely keep them interested. The fact that each new film in the series has switched the directions and motives of the main characters, in addition to making the previous antagonist the current protagonist is extremely refreshing. Add to that some of the best fight choreography, filming, and editing this side of the Pacific ocean and you have a series of films that have increased in quality with each new release! Director Isaac Florentine has taken his sweet time to give fans what they want to see. And God bless him for it. So much art is lost in the pursuit of cash. I hope other directors are taking notes on his work.

Scott Adkins ("Ninja", "X-Men Origins: Wolverine") returns as Uri Boyka, former prison fighting champion, who...

The Awkward Comedy Show

I Made a Great Movie
this Comedy doc and performance excels in many areas. The comedians themselves are hilarious, picked seemingly by the hand of a sheer genius as representatives of the alternative African American comedian genre. Each performer entertains to a degree previously not thought of by bipedal animals.

The animated segments were a stroke of creativity that once viewed by Steven Spielberg forced him to utter the words; "What am I doing?" He won't admit this of course but that doesn't make it any less true.

Shot masterfully by Alan McIntyre Smith, a cinematographic genius who was high the entire time; this film hearkens back to the days when standup concerts really looked like films.

Produced by my best Jay Stern and sound mixed by my other best friend Jason Kanter, this masterpiece represents a monumental achievement in telling two people that they were both your best friends for years.

HD 80 min, Stereo
Directed by a douche-bag.

It's true...
Sure I mixed the sound for The Awkward Comedy Show but that doesn't change the fact that everything mentioned in the other reviews is true. This is a funny, funny show. I've been subjected to this movie several dozen times and I still crack up. Working on the film has also given me the unique ability to attest to the fact that Victor Varnado is indeed a douche bag who despite having made millions off of the film's sale to Comedy Central, still owes me $500.

Where's my money Victor??!!

Hilarious!
I caught this when it aired on Comedy Central. These are not your stereotypical black comedians and that makes this stand-up movie stand out! There are 5 comics, each with their own style. My favorites were Victor and Hannibal. Along with the stand-up sets, there are animated shorts and interviews. The movie itself is well made and the comedians had me laughing out loud. This DVD is one I know I can put on every time I have friends over. Recommended!

The Facts of Life: The Complete Fourth Season

Eastland Academy's Final Year - Episodes with Descriptions
It has been nearly four years since Sony Pictures have released The Facts of Life: The Complete Third Season on DVD. Today, January 26, 2010, Shout! Factory has announced the next installment: The Facts of Life: The Complete Fourth Season to be released May 4th, 2010 on DVD. Not only does the 4 disc set contain all 23 full length episodes, but one of the special features will include The Facts of Life: Goes To Paris 2 Hour Movie, which, was aired on NBC only days before the fourth season premiered in the fall of 1982.

This marks the last season of the show at Private School Eastland Academy, where the 1983-1984 season starts the beginning of a new era for the show: Edna's Edibles. But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. Guest Stars for the fourth season include Eve Plumb (Brady Bunch), Jimmy Baio, David Ackroyd, Gary Hudson, Geri Jewell, Chip Fields (Kim Fields 'Tooties' mother). Mrs. Garrett and the girls learn more about the Facts of Life during Blair and Jo's...

PLEASE GIVE ME FACTS OF LIFE SEASON 4 NOW!!!!
This show is a classic and I have been patiently waiting forever for Season 4-----please SONY, release it soon. The waiting time is getting ridiculous. I'll start a petition if I have to!!!!!!!

Sony, Quit Jerkin' Us Around
Dear Sony,

Many of us have faithfully bought all the previously released seasons of "The Facts of Life." We have been waiting patiently for over a year now while you guys have forgotten us because of your financially-driven zest to release currently syndicated 'classics' like "Two and a Half Men" (either that, or you've been sitting in the corner eating boogers). Don't get me wrong - most of us who loved the "Facts" girls back in the day are happy that fellow 80s star Jon Cryer has a steady job, but, honestly, give us our "Facts."

NOW!!!!!

Uh, pretty please. Don't make us go harass Charlotte Rae for answers.

Bound By a Secret

Chris M
I truly enjoy this movie. Meredith Baxter and Lesley Ann Warren are superb. It is a story of true friendship and a secret these women share from their past. Both women lives are completely different. When Jane, an actress, discovers she has cancer, she wants to return to her hometown and the people she loves. Once back home Jane and dear fried Ida enjoy the remaining time they have left, while also trying to decide if they should reveal the secret they have kept for many years. While the ending is sad, it also introduces happy futures for Ida and her daughter.

Good movie
I saw this movie on tv and wanted to add it to my DVD collection... The quality of the movie was perfect... And the price was just right...

Bound by a Secret
I enjoyed this movie. It was a tear-jerker. I was hoping that the ending would turn out better for Lesley Ann Warren and Meredith Baxter.

Malice in Wonderland

With 'Malice' Aforethought...
I got a screener copy of this dvd and expected it to be a total dud, cashing in on the success of Tim Burton's 'Alice', but was more than surprised when I sat down to view it. I told my wife, "Don't expect much", and she concurred but, in truth, we both enjoyed it for what it was.

Instead of being loosely adapted by the Lewis Carroll tale, it was almost a literal translation of the story, except all the characters were rewritten to fit into today's seedy British underworld of lowlife gangsters, drug lords, addicts and pimps, as seen through the eyes of Terry Gilliam.

Alice (Maggie Grace) is an American law student in London, whose parents are insanely wealthy. Struck down by a cab operated by Whitey (the White Rabbit, excellently portrayed by Danny Dyer), she awakens with amnesia in Wonderland, a world that's a million miles from home.

We follow her various escapades as she is dragged through an underworld filled with twisted individuals and some of...

Something for your head
...with Snoop Dogg having an album of the same name, and Tim Burton doing a big budget adaptation to the Lewis Carrol story this small film which had been seeking distribution for almost a year finally gets to shine.
This film is simply AWESOME It keeps with the idea of the Lewis Carol story brilliantly. When I first saw it I assumed that it would be to Alice in wonderland what the movie Freeway was for Little Red Riding Hood, I was wrong. This story keeps more to the actual source material not only in feel, but also with character and plot-line development. What sounds a bit off of kooky actually works in a way that left me in awe. This movie has instantly become one of my favorite lil' indies.
Acted to the nines by everyone involved, most of whome I've never heard of save for Maggie Grace who was in last years sleeper hit "TAKEN", directed with an artsy flair and delivered with endearing locations, and visuals one can not help but to fall down the rabbit hole...

Wonderland Underground
I really liked this take on Alice. This a version of Wonderland that isn't so bright and shiny. Wonderland is gritty and crime filled. Remember watching the original Disney version and thinking these characters are a littlle wonky and left of center. Well these characters take that to a whole new level, so much so that they are rolled over in the ditch on the side of the road. And Wonderland is right there w/ them just as twisted. Alice's story is a little more complicated in this version. For example she meets Whitey(the White Rabbit)by him hitting her w/ his cab. In the course of the movie Alice has several flashbacks to her childhood and some involving a recent conversation w/ her father. It may take you the whole movie to figure out what these mean or you may think you have it after a couple flashes. Alice and Whitey's team up makes the movie. Maggie Grace(Alice) and Danny Dryer(Whitey) have good chemistry which makes it all the better. This take on Wonderland definately isn't for...

Man vs Wild: Season Four

To the bone!
Bear has definitely kicked up the pace for his new season. Lot's of horrendous situations with devastating results and mishaps that lead to a test of complete endurance. Will Ferrell debuted on a special episode where he and Bear travel through frozen climate and seas of deep snow and rough terrain. The drop-in scenes have gotten more intense as well as the level of skill that it takes to inhabit such inhospitable regions as Viet Nam or just south of Siberia. Bear has the chance to take down big game that could gouge or skewer Grylls with a swipe. As for the bad parts of the season... the case in comes in. Its just a cheap fold up cardboard case with pockets that the DVDs slide into. Not very feasible and doesn't look presentable. Would have paid more for a copy that had a half-way decent case that wasn't 2 inches wider than normal DVDs. A must-have for those who enjoy the wilderly!!

The most exciting season!
Season 4 of Man vs Wild is I feel, the BEST season and also most exciting! It is like all the other MvW seasons, but combined with lots of crazy stunts! VERY exciting this season! The locations are all dramatic and classic. The episode with Will Ferrel is one you can watch over and over! I own all the other seasons that have been released on DVD, and they are all great in different ways, season 5 being the weakest, and I feel season 4 is definitely worth owning! Great season!

Great Series!
We, as a family, just love Bear. We own seasons 1-4 now. Sometimes there's controversy as to if every single little thing he does is by the book (SAS survival manual), but I think it's great the way he demonstrates and presents skills. I have learned a lot. If anyone is picky about HOW he does things, they need to watch the series along with reading the manual for accuracy. He is a wonderful presenter and I love his spirit. He counts to three and goes on 2. That says something about his character.

It's an exciting show that gets us excited about backpacking as a family. Some things we have read about in the manual are really great to see someone actually doing it. I also love seeing and learning about different places around the globe. I'm amazed at his ingenuity and enthusiasm. After watching 3 seasons, I'm surprised how many different things there are in season 4... it is still very interesting. I'd like to see critics do a small fraction of what Bear...

Dirty Dancing (Limited Keepsake Edition)

The best movie from the 80s
In Dirty Dancing, Jennifer Grey stars as Frances "Baby" Houseman, a girl who goes on vacation to the Catskills with her father, mother and sister in the summer of 1963. She meets the handsome dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), who works at the lodge where they're staying, and is smitten with him. When she volunteers to fill in for Johnny's dance partner, Baby experiences love and life firsthand from the free-spirited Johnny.

The DVD version of this movie is terrific. The clarity is amazing, the sound is crisp & clear and the bonuses are wonderful. With the bonus features, you get commentary from the movie's creator, a behind-the-scenes featurette (with no audio), the videos for "She's Like the Wind," "I've Had the Time of My Life" & "Hungry Eyes," biographies about the cast & crew (Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Cynthia Rhodes, Jerry Orbach, Jack Weston, the director, the producer, the writer and the choreographer), a...

If you own the Collectors, do you want this one? Read on.
I give this movie and the DVD package 4 stars. The music was powerful and the love story between Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze was a powerful one and the acting performances by all involved were completely believable.

Now for the DVD itself. If you own the Collectors Edition and you're wondering whether or not you would want this version there should be only one thing to take into account....how good is your home theatre system?

If you have a 5.1-7.1 home theatre system then I would highly recommend buying this version, the DTS:ES 6.1 discreet audio track is more visceral than the Dolby Digital 5.1EX track and with almost twice the bit rate you're getting nearly twice the information. This means that you're listening to something that's more accurately reproducing the original studio masters of the audio with less compression than the Dolby track.

If you already own the collectors edition and you're watching your DVDs through either just your...

THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE
It is awfully hard not to get swept up into the nostalgic heat and sentiment of this unabashedly, and well-done, teen romance. It is, by turns, sexy, funny, melodramatic, jamming (what with that soundtrack chock full of some of the best pop hits of the 60s mixed with a few great new songs) and campy. Yet the overriding feeling of melancholy and wistfulness, portrayed with real talent by Jennifer Grey, as the perfect Baby, transforms this movie into something lasting, something to really love. Cynthia Rhodes is absolutely riveting -- as usual -- in the second female lead; she is a spectacular dancer and electrifying whenever she is on the screen. The aching feeling of first true love/lust/whatever, here directed at hunky Patrick Swayze, who is by the way an excellent dancer, comes to full flower at a Poconos resort. As all manner of soapy subplots move through their predictable paces, we are treated to the transformation of our young heroine and any number of delightful...

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: The Complete Fifth Season

I said to the cab driver yo holmes smell ya later
The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air Season 5 is the continuation of the always funny and often heart wamring tales of Will Smith playing a character of the same name. Season 5 leaves off where season 4 ended. When we last saw Will, he had returned to Philadelphia with his California Aunt and Uncle and cousins in tow. After attending a Phillies game and reenacting scene's from Rocky will finally confronts the very bully that sent him packing for cali in the first place. The first episode of season 5 leaves off with Will's dilemma of now that he has finally erased the unfair label of him being a chicken in philly, should he stay or should he go back to California. Other memorable episodes in Season 5, and there are many is Aunt Vivian and Uncle Phil's appearance on Soul Train, to commemorate their anniversary. Will Smith also shows his acting chops and shows his dramatic acting abilities in the episode where Will takes a bullet for Carlton. An image that still evokes emotion is the final scene...

another great season of the show that finally shows up!
I have been waiting so long for this season to come out! This season is packed with hillarious episodes...

The show never gets dull & is always fun to watch...
I dont see as many re-runs on tv as I used too, so buying this season was the best thing I could have done!!!

Also, please release the other 2 seasons right away...
We all want to see them again too...

Thanks...

WOO HOO!!! IT'S HERE, IT'S HERE, IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!
I love all movies, television shows and videos Will Smith has ever been in! I've been very patient, now it is time to start bringing my collection of "Fresh Prince of Bellaire" to a close! If you like clean cut family fun and entertainment, with a life lesson or two, then this is the series you want to get! I recommend the entire collection 1-6. Will Smith is an awsome rapper/actor and I love his work! SO THANKS FOR SEASON FIVE AND COME ON SEASON SIX!!! I am a huge fan!

Rounding First (DVD)

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
At this time of movies with huge budgets & special effects comes along a movie made for the whole family. My kids saw it & when their friends come over, they sit & watch it over & over again. As a parent, you don't have to worry. With the movie being set in the early 80's, the movie does a good job of capturing 1980 & it brings me back to the days when I was a rebel as a kid.

When will Hollywood learn? When they take a lesson from Jim Fleigner!
At a time when our world is upside down and our children have absolutely no sense of true friendship, loyalty, committment, and redemptiveness, Hollywood just keeps spitting out the same trash. But writer/director Jim Fleigner's film Rounding First takes all those worthy charateristics listed above and offers us an opportunity to remember what they really mean and how desperately we need to teach our children about them. Rounding First is a film Frank Capra would be proud of. It allows adults to remember, their children to peek into the past, and compels all of us to call all our dearest friends and tell them we love them. Each one of us is represented in the three main characters. And all of us will recall how the hard lessons of life shaped our character the most. It's refreshing to be able to sit down with the whole entire family and watch a movie again. This will remain a valuable part of my movie collection. Thank you Mr. Fleigner, thank you very, very much.

Not Your Usual Kid's Film
"Rounding First" is not your usual kid's film. Without giving away the plot it deals with complex family issues. 3 preteens set out on a quest to find out why the parents are lying to them about something. The journey is a strange and eventful trip. Two of the young actors, Soren Fulton and Matt Borish give great preformances. I give this film a high rating as suggest it for both kids and parents.

Sincerely

Larry McMurtry's Streets Of Laredo

The Real Sequel to Lonesome Dove.
This is the real, Larry McMurtry written, sequel to Lonesome Dove (not Lonesome Dove II), and it has all of McMurtry's specialities: well-drawn characters, absolutely viscious and unredeemable villains & murderers, and complex protagonists with a hell of a tale to tell.

Tommy Lee Jones was the perfect physical embodiment of hard-bitten Texas Ranger Woodrow Call. A small man, ramrod straight with a ferocious temper and will of iron that made him SEEM like a bigger man. But TLJ didn't make this trip for whatever reason. Instead, we have James Garner taking over as Woodrow, and he IS a big man and inately likeable. No matter, Garner is too good an actor not to win you over, and we quickly adjust to him as an older, more tired, laconic, but still mean as hell Woodrow Call.

Peaeye is now Sam Shepard and Lorena is Sissy Spacek and she has passed by all her would-be suitors and married the taciturn Ranger, become a school teacher, and together they have 5 children. Peaeye is...

Call's "swan song".......
This TV movie was the last in the series. Call is older and near the end of his adventurous life...BUT...he still has one more big adventure before he "retires" for good. We see Call chasing a Mexican bandit that he knew previously and he meets up with some old acquaintances..both good and bad. We finally see the "human" side to Call and we understand him just a little bit better. Good action packed yarn and good acting. Well worth a look.

A solid, if downbeat chapter in the magnificent series
Granted, both the original Lonesome Dove novel and film were unique works of extremely fascinating classic story-telling. Streets of Laredo obviously has a great deal to live up to and, when viewed or read in conjunction with Dove it does suffer in the sense that our familiarity is slightly snubbed. Obviously this is something that cannot be helped so I must say that Streets of Laredo as a film stands firmly upon its own merits which are quite impressive.

Firstly, the cast is sublime. James Garner, always a vastly underrated actor creates a stoic, yet tragic Call. His final scene (don't worry I won't give it all away)is at once heart breaking and filled with a quiet hope. His performance is all about what film acting aspires: he moves mountains without words. The rest of the cast is on equal footing with Garner (who deserved at least something of an Emmy nod) Playwright Sam Shepard's Pea Eye, although losing much of Tim Scott's Bentonesque forlorn rube, is filled with...

Saving Grace: Seasons 1 & 2

Fantastic series! Character is king!
I have to say that it irks me when someone (specifically for this product: true resonance in their May 10, 2010 review) uses the Amazon reviews to rate their displeasure with shipping or packaging issues. In those cases, return the product or if it is a non-Amazon supplier, then provide bad feedback.

As someone who has actually WATCHED all seasons of Amazing Grace, I wanted to make the comment that this is one of the best series ever on the air. The writing is fresh and unexpected, you'll find passion, drama, humor, good characters with flaws and redeemable bad characters, and some of the best acting anywhere. If you are a fan of series like Lost, Mad Men, The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Streets, The West Wing, Deadwood, etc, then this series will speak to you in much the same way.

Saving Grace Rocks...........
I have been enthralled with this series since the first show. Grace is a hard living, working, loving woman that has had life blows that could turn anyone from their Lord.

This show touched a live nerve in me. God loves Grace so much, he sends her an angel to show her his love. Despite all her anger and many mistakes he shows her patience and miracles and doesn't give up on her.

I can't wait each week for the next show and yet will be sad to see the series go. You will laugh and you will cry but if you are like me, you will also find some hope.

I got both series on 8 discs
just to reassure buyers, I bought the combined series 1&2 despite one reviewer's problems with receiving the full package of 8 discs.

I got them all, 4 discs for series 1 and the same for series 2.

Working Miracles

Insiring Film
This is a beautifully inspiring film about good simple people living ordinary lives and then something extraordinary happens. Eddie Cibrian is excellent in his portrayal of a regular guy who has been blessed with a miraculous gift and we follow him on his path as he tries to do good. He has the love of his life at his side and a loving family that tries to be supportive. This is a film with real feelings with a nice story, without all the ugly gore and violence you see in most films today.

Chris M
What a wonderful movie. You can never go wrong with movies made by Faith and Family Entertainment. I truly believe in miracles and this movie shows that miracles do happen. In this movie a man realizes he has a gift and helps others who are troubled and in pain. He wants to help everyone. After a while he realizes that the ability of healing that he has, is taking him away from the people he loves the most. This story shows how faith, family and love can bring miracles. If you like heartwarming movies, this is a must.

Spiritual uplifting movie
I saw the movie before, when it was called Healing Hands. It shows how caring and helping others can lead to large problems. As Buddy tries to make a difference, he is caught up in the moment by all needing his gift. He himself becomes a victim and after he is cured, he has to lead a life of knowing he still has the gift, but keeping it on a non-existent level.

The Honeymooners: Second Honeymoon

Gleason returns for the first of THREE 70's TV specials
Despite what the blurbs say about four TV specials and all in 1976,there were only three that I know of and they are this one,The Second Honeymoon, telecast on Feb./76,the second a Christmas Special broadcast in Dec/77 and the last,The Valentines Special broadcast in Feb/78.
Like the others that would follow,The Second Honeymoon was broadcast not from Miami Beach,Fla. but from Miami at Gusman Hall and for ABC not CBS.It was the US's Bi-Centennial and it was also the 25th anniversary of the Honeymooners which was a perfect time for the Great One to return to the airwaves.
Back in their seats are Art Carney as Norton,Audrey Meadows as Alice,Jane Kean as Trixie and of course Jackie as Ralph;and it is like they never left the airwaves.Ralph discovers some knitted mitts and a cover for his bowling ball that Alice has tried to hide as gifts for their anniversary, but which he mistakes as baby clothing that she is knitting for someone or other. When Mrs.Manicotti's boy drops buy with...

Nice to see most of the gang again
I've always been a big fan of the Honeymooners. I am very happy that MPI is releasing these specials now that they have finished the 1960s color Honeymooners musicals. It is a treat to see Jackie Gleason, Art Carson and Audrey Meadows together again, particuarly Audrey Meadows. Jane Kean is a fine Trixie but I would have really enjoyed seeing Joyce Randolf again. Anyway, these specials were made in the early 70s and it's obvious that the cast has grown a little older. The jokes and storylines seemed to mostly be coming from some older "lost episode" storylines since at the time nobody thought they'd ever be rebroadcast again or put on something called a DVD. So the 70s audience would probably not remember that many of the things in this story had been done before. Anyway, it was still great to see the cast. The only problem is that I do think it's expensive to purchase just this one DVD that only has a 50 minute show. I will continue to purchase all of these specials but I wish they...

The Honeymoon Continues...How Sweet It Is!
In the mid to late 70's, Jackie Gleason revived The Honeymooners in a series of specials with Audrey Meadows as Alice, Art Carney as Ed Norton, and Jane Kean as Trixie. This special proves that the intervening years had done nothing to diminish the chemistry between Jackie and Audrey, or between Jackie and Art. Gleason assumes the role of Ralph Kramden as if he'd never left it, and manages to keep the franchise alive and contemporary (for its time) with a few topical references, yet retaining the flavor of the original Honeymooners sketches of the 1950's. Once again, Ralph suspects that Alice is pregnant. Never mind the fact that their ages by the late 70's tend to stretch the plausibility of this premise...with Ralph and Alice, anything seems possible, including their timelessness and agelessness. This is a pleasant, hilarious revival of a comedy classic, sure to appeal to those old enough to remember the originals as well as those so young that this is all new stuff. This is a...

Care Bears: Share-a-Lot in Care-a-Lot

my daughter says to say she really likes it
This DVD features 8 episodes from the 2007 "Adventures in Care-a-Lot" Care Bears cartoon: "Re-Booted", "Tempus Fugits", "Share and Share Alike", "Here Comes McKenna", "Night Shift", "All Give and No Take", "Bumpity and Tweazle", and "Surprise Day". It features McKenna, the young lady on the cover, who has a lot to learn, and introduces Bumpity and Tweazle, two well-meaning but confused shape-shifting cloud...things. Um, nimbits or some such. As an adult, I find some early care bears cartoons mostly noise and bad slapstick, but I find this series much less annoying, occasionally funny, and full of simple positive values without being preachy. And my 5-year-old likes it a lot.

Ok Care Bears Movie
My girls weren't very interested in this movie. They preferred the newest Care Bears Wish a Lot instead of this.

Hey Mulligan: Mickey Rooney Show

Obscure 1950s television sitcom is surprisingly good
"The Mickey Rooney Show/Hey Mulligan" was a half hour sitcom that ran on NBC for 39 episodes during the 1954-55 season. The show lasted only a single season, becoming a ratings victim to the immensely popular "The Jackie Gleason Show" on CBS. The premise of the show has Rooney starring as Michael "Mickey" Mulligan, a studio page working at the fictional IBC television network who dreams of becoming a serious dramatic actor. The show's humor is derived from the situations in which Mulligan finds himself at both home and work. Regis Toomey and Claire Carleton are Mulligan's loving and supportive parents, while John Hubbard is his boss at IBC, Carla Balenda is his romantic interest, and Joey Forman is his best friend and fellow page at IBC. Forman is a very good second banana to Rooney and much of the funnier situations in this show involve the two pages. Look for early guest star roles from Guy Williams ("Zorro," "Lost in Space") and Angie Dickinson ("Police Woman") in these episodes...

Very funny and very nostalgic
I enjoyed all ten epidodes of Hey Mulligan which I remember from my childhood. Mickey Rooney is great in this show and Joey Forman , and the rest of the cast are funny as well. The source material is very clear and enjoyable to watch. I hope it's true that the whole series is coming out on DVD soon - ten episodes only whetted my appetite. And while the're at it, how about The People's Choice, and It's A Great Life.

Cute Show with Mickey Rooney
This was a very cute show. There are 10 episodes on this DVD set. The quality of the shows are great!
Mickey Rooney was hilarious in these. If you love 1950's comedy this set of for you. If you love Mickey Rooney you will love him as Mulligan.
By the way, be looking for the entire 33 episode DVD release of the show SOON!

The Nanny Express

Great Movie!
I watched this on Hallmark Channel and fell in love with the story.

Where a young woman is working her way through school to be a teacher while volunteering to tutor at her church. Her father is very ill she lives with him, they have a great father daughter relationship. After she loses one of her jobs she finds a nanny position with a family where the kids need loads of TLC...

Great story...the father of the Nanny makes it a point to always tell his daughter that he "Loves her as big as the sky"...

This is the type of quality I've come to associate with the Hallmark name over the years.

Where is Super Nanny when you need her?
The movie opens with a series of unfortunate events experienced by the 20+ nannies who have tried to cope with the 2 children of David Chandler. Meanwhile, Kate is coping with a father with heart disease, being laid off from her job, working on getting her teaching degree and tutoring kids from low-income families at her church. The driver of the bus on her regular route (and soon-to-be her best friend's boyfriend) connects her with a job because his sister runs a business providing housekeepers and nannies. That is how the Chandlers meet Kate.

She has the same pranks pulled on her that 9-year-old Ben and 15-year-old Emily played on all of their other victims, but she needs the job, so she sticks with it. She also sees in Emily the shadows of her own past and hopes that she will be able to help her. Ben begins to thaw toward her, but Emily remains cold and disdainful. This is the hardest part of this movie for me. The father seems completely clueless as to how to teach...

Predictable, Poignant, Pleasant
I usually avoid these family kind of movies. They tend to be corny, mushy, over done with syrupy music playing from start to finish. This one is a refreshing surprise!

My wife and I decided to sit this one through, and yes, of course, you pretty much know what's going to happen from start to finish. A young teacher to be takes a nanny position from a rich, handsome guy(Can there be any other type?)widower who has two bratty children. This is lighthearted fair, but with a couple dramatic elements, basically dealing with the death of one's parents. Also, I wouldn't call it a true romantic comedy because the protaganist don't spend the first half of the movie hating/fighting with one another; nonetheless, a potential romance ensues.

Two of my favorite, stalwart actors perform well in their small but important roles: Dean Stockwell as the nanny's 'hanging-on-to-his-last-gasp', loving father and Stacy Keach as the tad potbellied, sympathetic, wise minister. I...

Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1980s, Vol. 1

Cost effective for WB vs. Useful content for the fans...
I'm a huge cartoon nerd who in particular loves the Saturday morning and syndicated stuff from the 80s and it's unfortunate that I think I'm both the exact target audience for a release like this as well as one of of the fans completely let down by this style of release.

Real quick, the WB presents SMC 1980s 2-disc set is a compilation of single episodes from eleven different 80s cartoons including:

Thundarr the Barbarian
Mr. T
Dragon's Lair
The Flintstone Kids
Galtar and the Golden Lance
The Biskitts
The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley
The Monchichis
Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos
Tex Avery's the Kwicky Koloa Show
Goldie Gold & Action Jack

There's also a short 18 minute special feature called Lords of Light that reminisces on the production of Thundarr the Barbarian with a handful of talking head intervews (including some great insights from writers, as well as the creator/producers of...

As Oliver Twist would say, " More (volumes) please" Warner Bros
It's great to see the 1980s decade of cartoons getting it's own volume to shine, being that we've already seen two 1960s and two 1970s sets of the Saturday Morning collection already out. One can not stress enough that high sales of this 80s volume 1 would encourage WB to release more 80s sets in the future. It's been said the 60s volumes have not sold as well as the 70s sets and that's a shame because some of these cartoons released in volume form are about the only way they'll get to be on DVD being they're not as popular to be sold on their own. So the more 80s volumes made, the better chance we'll get the more niche' cartoons.

Well on to some of the content, "Thundarr" is your classic good verus evil set in a post apocalyptic earth, the intro to the show alone is worth the price of admission. "Galtar" also shares that action vibe set and is similar to Conan in some regards. Both shows clearly deserve a complete series set and they might just get that treatment if this...

Ticks most of my boxes
I was quite surprised to see the average ratings (so far) given in the reviews. As a quintessential child of the 80s, the cartoons featured in the 1st volume are some of my most wanted on dvd... The Biskitts, Monchicchis, Chuck Norris and Mr T! These were all great shows that I remember fondly. All that plus some great looking artwork makes this one of my most anticipated releases this year. It's just a shame we'll probably only get one episode of each. My requests for the 2nd volume... PawPaws, Pac Man and Rubik The Amazing Cube!

The Dukes

Robert Davi Scores with "The Dukes"
Robert Davi has always been a wonderful actor - as anyone who followed his career knows. But too often he was stuck in projects that were not worthy of his talent. Now, at last, he has found the answer - write and direct his own films. And "The Dukes" is his first such effort and it is a winner. A great story that has both comedy and pathos. A "feel good" movie that the whole family will enjoy. And, best of all, Robert finally does some real singing - as opposed to the "throw away" bits in "Goonies" and several other films. The man has so many talents - and this film does him proud.

An absolutely WONDERFUL film!
This creation, from actor Robert Davi, was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning until end! I would recommend it for the whole family (except the little kids).

Judging from the song at the end, many of the actors have great singing voices, too. Somebody told me that they recorded a track to promote the film; I'd love to find it on the internet.

Towards the end of the movie, look for a really nice surprise appearance from veteran actor Joseph Campanella, which brought me to tears, as it reminded me of my own grandfather.

"The Dukes" is what some might call a 'sleeper'. I will be ordering a copy for my family and perhaps a few more for relatives and friends.

Brilliant
Robert Davi has created an instant classic. I loved the film in the theater, and it is just as good if not better the second time around on DVD. Love the commentary on the disk. This film is very timely and will know doubt go down in history as a social commentary about these times we live in decades from now. Funny, quirkey, exciting and real. A nice break form the boring old studio formula films. Finally something new and original.

The Honeymooners: Valentine Special

Nice special overall
The Honeymooners aired four specials in the 70s after Gleason's show was off the air. This Valentine Special is one of two that MPI just released. The other was "Second Honeymoon". Out of the two, I think this one is funnier but none can compare to the classic 39. It's great to see Audrey Meadows reprise her role as Alice. I wish that Joyce Randolf would have been willing to fly down to Miami Beach to play Trixie but obviously that didn't happen. I enjoyed watching this video and I am pleased that MPI is releasing them. I understand the next two will also be released later this year. I will purchase them all. The problem for me is that they're pricey when you consider all you get is one 50 minute special. As I mentioned in a previous review, I would rather have had all four specials released in one package with a good price and label it "The Honeymooners specials" or something like that. That's the main reason why I give it only 3 stars. The gags were funny overall even though some of...

Great to see Gleason & Co. back!!
Much better than the Second Honeymoon special. This recapture's the magic of the classic 39. A must have for any Honeymooners fan. I can't wait for the two christmas specials to be released.

Something to Laugh
I have the Honeymooners set and when I found these
CD I knew I had to add them to my set.

Marcus Welby, M.D.: Season One

It paved the way for the other medical dramas
Back in the day, medical dramas were primarily soap operas with a focus on people's multitudinous troubles and the occasional rare, but life-threatening "are-we-gonna-renew-his-contract-next-season-or-not" disease thrown in for good measure.

Marcus Welby, MD was different. It was the first network program to have more of a true medical focus, and yet it kept a good balance, interweaving the medical theme with the drama of people's storm-tossed lives. I've read that medical professionals thought highly of this show, because of its fairly accurate depiction of a general practitioner's day-to-day life.

And Marcus Welby was such a likable character. And the show's writing was stellar. I still remember so many wonderful quotes from the show and I could probably sit down and recite a dozen of the story lines - just from memory. It made *that* kind of impression.

The show first aired on ABC in 1969 and one year later, actor Robert Young won an Emmy for his...

Long Overdue
If you liked Robert Young as Jim Anderson in "Father Knows Best", then you'll just adore him in this long overdue to DVD As Marcus Welby, the kindly old time doctor whom every family would like to call their own. Imagine, a doctor who actually cares about his patients. Whooda thunk it. Try that today! Anyhoo, why is it not on DVD yet? Come on guys. Lets get the ball rollin' and show the folks what real TV was like. Not like today's stuff, let me tell ya!

Still Waiting
I have been checking Amazon hoping to find Marcus Welby on DVD for a long time now. It was a great show and I am hoping to see it offered in the near future. The shows on TV today are not even worth watching. I think that it is wonderful to purchase the old shows and let my son appreciate how good TV used to be. I don't know what the writers are thinking today most of them have their minds in the gutter and it does not set good examples for the younger generation.

Apocalypse Now: Redux

Original versus Redux (see comments section for my "Redux" DVD review)
I'm a hardcore Apocalypse Now fanatic, and this, the original version of the film, is what made me one, several years ago. Reviewers like to debate endlessly over which version is better, this or the Redux. Personally, I like both, but I find this original version to be more surreal, relentless, and, to quote another reviewer, more "dangerous." The fact is, Coppola used different shots and edits in the Redux, in some cases diluting the surreal impact of the original. Plus the characters Kilgore and Kurtz come off more strongly in the original; sure, we get to see more humanity from Kilgore in the Redux, but his exit in the original is much more memorable, much better than the "tossing megaphone into the air" antics as shown in the Redux. And Kurtz is a more powerful Evil One in the original version, not much more than a shadow.

What gets me is that, in the press releases that came out with Redux, Coppola claimed that he no longer considered the 1979 version of...

More Mesmerizing Than Ever...
This review refers to the Widescreen Collection(Paramount)DVD edition of "Apocalypse Now - Redux"......

In 1979's "Apocalypse Now", Francis Ford Coppola presented us with a mesmerizing, stunning look at the horrors of Viet Nam. It was a film that looked at the hearts and minds of the soldiers and the effects the brutualities had on them. A magnificent work at the time, you wouldn't believe it could be any better. But now, more than 20 years later(and well worth the wait), Coppola has seen his vision completed, with the reediting of the film and the addition of previously deleted scenes, to bring us this gift of the even more mesmerizing "Apocalypse Now Redux".

There is an additional 49 minutes now, and although I don't feel that every minute of it was essential to making this classic film an even better one, there is a new story here that helps us relate to the frame of mind of the soldiers. A scene where the boat crew takes time out for a rendevous with the...

Not complete, but still worth it. 4 1/2 stars
The Film 5/5

There have been countless books, websites, and even a documentary (Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmakers Apocalypse) about this film that it seems almost pointless to write about it. One of the most troubled productions in film history, the film went on to recieve universal acclaim and is now a cinema classic.

For those of you getting into this film for the first time, do not expect your typical vietnam war film. In fact you could argue that the film is not really about the Vietnam War, but is instead about man's descent into "the heart of darkness" if you will. The film follows Captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen)who is given a mission to proceed up river into Cambodia to assassinate a Green Beret Colonel (Marlon Brando) who has gone insane.

That is the basic story of the film. But, it is much more than that. The movie is essential one sureal moment after another. From a helicopter attack done to the tune of Wagner's "Ride of the...
